Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching high school students is their boundless curiosity and willingness to explore new things. Their creativity, enthusiasm, and energy will make each lesson unique and exciting. What I love most about them is how they embrace challenges, work together, and support each other. There’s a real sense of community and shared accomplishment when they learn a new technique.

A hot plate, air fryer/grill, and cooking utensils will enhance their learning experience by providing them with hands-on tools that bring cooking to life in new, practical ways.

The hot plate allows for flexibility and convenience, giving them the ability to cook directly in the classroom, without the need for a fully-equipped kitchen. With the air fryer, students will learn how to prepare healthier alternatives to fried foods, giving them insight into modern cooking techniques and nutrition. With the right tools, students can execute more complex recipes, perfect their knife skills, and experiment with textures and flavors.

These tools will make a significant difference in their learning because they offer real-world, practical experiences. Cooking is about understanding the science of flavors, developing patience, and building confidence in the kitchen. The hot plate and air fryer also allow students to work more independently and with fewer restrictions, fostering a sense of empowerment as they create meals on their own. The freedom to cook with these devices will help them better understand cooking techniques, food safety, and the joy of preparing food that is both nourishing and fun.

My goals for this project are to nurture my students’ culinary skills, encourage creativity, and instill a sense of responsibility in the kitchen. I hope they gain confidence in their abilities, develop a deeper appreciation for food, and learn how to make healthier choices in their diets.
