My Project

In the spring of 2023, a group of Stikine Middle School students and I completed a two-week workshop in which students created place-based documentaries featuring many community members. This engaging project was very successful and generated much interest from other students and community members. I would like to offer a similar learning opportunity to many more students in Wrangell.

By funding this project, Stikine Middle School students will have the opportunity to create documentaries about Wrangell and the people who live here.

I would like to offer this opportunity to students in my elective classes as well as create a film club in the future.

Our documentary projects are 100% student-driven and provide the students with valuable learning experiences including improving team-building skills, communication skills, collaborating with community members, and strengthening important technology skills. Students' documentaries can be used to record stories of the past, highlight our local wildlife and natural area, celebrate local culture, and teach visitors about our island. This project provides endless possibilities for student creativity and empowerment.
