Stickler For Staplers

My students need two electronic staplers to staple their writing drafts together. I have replaced four manual staplers so far this year. They are not durable enough.

My Students

The writing process can lead to greatness. Writers sometimes can produce five drafts or more before they feel they have effectively made their point. My students are no exception. They are in the process of mastering the power of the printed word. Those manual staplers are causing them to loose it

The majority of my students are from low income housing projects, but they are awesome!

They have a strong work ethic and will do anything I ask of them because they trust that I am providing them a world class education. Despite their circumstances they are willing to try new things and expand their experiences through reading and writing.

My Project

The power of the pen is mightier than the sword! This is our classroom mantra. We have been writing since September, mostly narrative essays. My students are really getting into the the power of writing as it provides them a means of expressing themselves. The drafts are getting lengthier as the year progresses and our manual staplers just aren't equipped to handle the use of one hundred and forty students on a weekly basis. So as a result we are using paper clips. A major disaster. Students are loosing drafts and brainstorms all over the place. Imagine pouring your heart and soul into a rough draft or revision only to loose it in the shuffle. The two electric staplers are durable enough to handle the wear and tear of the students and their drafts because it sits stationary, which cuts down on the manipulation of it, and it can staple more than twelve sheets at a time.

We need electric staplers to help us in our efforts to maintain multiple drafts during the writing process.

My students have discovered the value of expressing themselves through writing, and I don't want them to get frustrated when parts of the essays are lost due to faulty hand-held staplers. Seems like such a small item, but it's impact will be one that helps to create life-long writers.
