This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students come to our alternative high school because traditional classroom environments didn't work for them. We strive to provide an "alternative path to success," helping them rediscover their potential. As the only art teacher for over 200 students, I have the privilege of guiding these young people as they relearn what it feels like to achieve success.

I believe that every student can find joy in creativity and a sense of accomplishment through art.

To help my students regain confidence, I focus on hands-on projects that engage their creativity while being accessible to all skill levels. These sticker mosaic and paint-by-sticker books would be an exciting addition to my curriculum. They offer a low-risk, high-reward experience—allowing students to complete impressive works of art without the fear of failure.

In addition to building creative confidence, these projects provide a much-needed break from technology. Many of my students struggle with maintaining focus, especially when faced with the constant pull of cell phones and social media. These books provide an opportunity to practice sustained attention, a critical life skill, while offering a calming, meditative experience. For students who carry heavy burdens outside of school, this kind of relaxing, immersive activity can be a source of peace and pride.
