My Project
The "Stepping Through Science" project aims to integrate movement and active learning into the classroom environment, specifically within the context of science education. This innovative approach will empower students to engage in physical activity while learning, using a specially designed standing desk equipped with an elliptical underneath. Students will have the option to stand or use the elliptical to step their way through class sessions, promoting physical health and cognitive engagement simultaneously.
This project builds upon the success of the FitDesk initiative previously funded through DonorsChoose, which introduced a stationary bike that allows students to pedal while learning.
By expanding movement options with a standing desk and elliptical, the project aims to cater to diverse learning preferences and physical needs of students. This approach not only encourages physical activity but also supports concentration and focus, particularly in the study of science where hands-on engagement and experimentation are crucial.
Implementing the "Stepping Through Science" project is expected to yield numerous benefits. Students will experience improved physical fitness, enhanced cognitive function, and increased motivation to participate actively in lessons. Furthermore, the project aligns with educational goals of promoting holistic development by integrating movement seamlessly into academic instruction. By fostering a dynamic learning environment that supports both physical and intellectual growth, the project aims to inspire lifelong habits of wellness and active learning among students.
