This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My project is designed to foster independence and confidence through age-appropriate topics, skills, and rites of passage for students in the STEPS Program.

My students are between 18-22 and entering into the stage of their lives where independence and community awareness will be the focus of my classroom and community instruction.

For some this may be awareness of Safety and Survival Skills while for others it may be learning to drive and accessing their community independently. Many of my students require manipulatives and/or simplified pencil/paper activities to access the skills I am trying to teach. To individualize their instruction, I will use stackable boxes for each student to work from and keep all of their work organized and easily accessed. Some of my students use school issued laptops to access, complete, and submit all of their assignments electronically. By having access to a Mouse, my belief is that the students will be able to use the laptop to complete their assignments and enhance their technological skills further enhancing their vocational skills.
