My Project

This project has a few different items in it. In 2nd grade, we learn about how NYC has changed from the time of the early settlers to now. Many things have changed. Our world has gotten faster and many things are easier today than they were a long time ago.

I want my students to understand how things have changed by allowing them to make candles that would have been similar to candles made a long time ago.

Many studies have shown that students learn better through hands-on learning experiences and projects. The materials that I am requesting will allow the 2nd graders in my school to create beeswax candles. These candles fit perfectly into our Social Studies unit of NYC Over Time. I am hoping that this project will give my students a stronger understanding of what life was like for settlers, who lived here before us.

I am also requesting more charging cords for the iPads that my students use. I have a charging station for them but over time the cords get damaged. These new cords would allow us to continue to charge all the iPads at one time.

I am also requesting magic fish. Have you ever held a magic fish in your hand? The science behind it discusses how your body temperature causes the fish to move in a certain way: curl up, roll over, flip, etc.. These movements are then tied to a fortune such as: you are in love, you are happy, etc... My students usually squeal with delight when the magic fish starts moving in their hands.

All of the materials I requested will help to enhance my student's 2nd-grade experience in my classroom.
