My Students

Make our hearts stronger. My students suffer from the same sedentary lifestyle affecting America. Help them learn about effective exercise.

These students live in a rural area in North Carolina and attend a school of approximately 1250 students.

The most popular recreational activities are hunting, fishing, and video games. Approximately 60% of my students cannot complete a 10 minute mile.

My Project

I am requesting 7 heart rate monitors. With these monitors students will be able to apply their knowledge of resting heart rate and target heart rate to their activities in class. These monitors will be used to help students assess their own abilities to check their heart rate manually and encourage them to exercise within their target heart rate. Some students will learn that exercising at their target heart rate is supposed to be uncomfortable. The objective is to teach them how it feels to exercise at an effective rate.

This project is important because it will increase the quality of participation and performance by giving students a data driven objective assessment of their participation in class cardiovascular activities.
