My Students

Our 3rd grade class is full of dynamic personalities and excitement for learning. Creative, funny, kind and helpful are a few words to describe our students. These are also words that describe the stories they would love to read! We are working with our students to develop a love for reading, and an interest in finding books that work for their reading levels and interests.

In our classroom, we have students who range from a reading level A to a reading level M, which means they are reading on levels that correspond to Kindergarten to 3rd grade.

We are an ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) classroom of two teachers, located in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn, NY. We are also a Title I School. Our third grade class consists of students with learning disabilities, English Language Learners, and non-disabled students who learn together in an inclusive environment.

We are working to expose them to content-rich vocabulary as well as to characters and stories that will help them learn new ideas and themes. It is important that our classroom has books that students are able to read confidently now and books that they are striving to read later as their abilities increase.

My Project

These books will help our students become avid readers. We want to create a class culture where independent reading is valued by encouraging students, even those who struggle with reading, to enter the reading life. Having a rich classroom library with books on a wide range of reading levels and diverse topics will promote this goal. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind, and I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading. Third grade is a pivotal year for reading literacy because it is the final year children are learning to read, after which students are reading to learn. At this point in the school year, all students have tremendous room to grow across all academic areas. These books will give students opportunities to use their imagination, discover new interests, and gain more confidence. Please help us continue to build our classroom library and reach the interests of all readers. Help us to enhance the language-rich classroom that we strive to create!
