My Project

I have the privilege of seeing all of the students in the school Art room each week. Although my primary focus is developing visual arts, I like to incorporate other disciplines into my art activities as well: Literacy, music, STEM, creativity, etc. I frequently have "early finisher" stations where students get to choose something fun, constructive, and developmentally stimulating, while waiting for the more thorough students are still working on their art projects.

It is so important for students to have an outlet for their creativity, and having access to building materials is key to helping achieve this goal.

One station the students seem to really enjoy is the ones that have anything to do with building, with LEGO bricks and Play-Doh being the favorite materials of choice. Because these materials are the favorites, they are not in the best condition. Some have been broken, some have vanished, some have been borrowed and not returned, and some are just begging to be replaced. Dried-out Play-Doh is not fun for anyone! If my DonorsChoose project is funded, my students will have the chance to build and create with brand-new materials. I am in constant awe of the imagination and ingenuity that is displayed with simple building materials.

Students shouldn't be deprived of things that pique their interest in learning simply because their school district can't always afford to get the materials they need. Therefore, any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
