My Students

We are a small, K-8 school in a culturally diverse neighborhood in New York City. My students are enthusiastic, expressive, curious learners from all different backgrounds. They are excited to learn and make amazing art projects. They love painting, drawing, sculpting with clay, and really anything they can be creative with! With budget cuts having affected New York public schools in recent years, it has become difficult for us to sometimes purchase even some of the most basic of art supplies for our classroom.

My Project

Working with the Science teacher at my school, I (the art teacher) will be working on a STEM program to create wind turbines and hydroponic gardens.

Renewable, sustainable energy is the future, and our students are the scientists and engineers of the future.

Green engineering and alternative energy solutions rank as one of the top engineering problems of our decade. Working with the science teacher, students will apply concepts and calculations to understand how energy transformation can be sustainable and effective in generating usable energy.

In order to prepare students to solve modern crises, they must remain captivated by STEM fields. My students need to see the process for themselves, and this project will empower the next generation of engineers and scientists.
