Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a class of 35 fifth graders working through a historical year of distance learning! I have been lucky enough to teach at a small, amazing, title one school where I am the only full fifth grade teacher. My students are a wonderful group who each have their own unique strengths and challenges. They are passionate about learning, and have a love for working hard. In our classroom, each and every student is a part of our family and community. Because of our school size, it has given us the opportunity to build such great relationships over the years. With a full, huge class comes so many different needs and strategies with each student, and I am looking forward to helping them reach their fullest abilities! With Distance Learning comes new opportunities to get creative. I am hoping to bring new things to the virtual classroom that will help my students thrive!

My Project

The supplies from this project will be incorporated both in-person and through distance learning. My district is continuing with distance-learning for the time being, however I am fortunate enough to bring in small groups of students to encourage their learning and increase their engagement! Supplies will focus on STEM- with a huge focus in science and gardening. Students will be engaging in hands-on, engineering type practices, along with elements of environmental literacy. We will be working with different instruments in the garden to further our knowledge in 5th grade science standards, as well as building models to mimic the patterns of the moons orbit and gravitational force. Both students at home and in-person will have supplies that will take their learning to new, fun levels!
