Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a gifted teacher in a title one school. This year my school was selected as one of 300 schools in the state of Florida to receive an extra hour of instruction every day due to our test scores. Because I have the highest performing students, instead of doing intervention I'm doing enrichment.

These students need to be inspired in order to keep their interest from waning.

I would like to introduce these students to different STEM activities that will not only teach them, but keep them interested in learning.

These kids are very clever and creative and tend to excel when doing activities that are meaningful to their lives. Most of them are from other countries and the parents are working two jobs just to try and make it. 98% of our students are on free and reduced lunch and 100% are minorities.

My Project

My students get an extra hour of enrichment every day. In order to make this meaningful to them, I want to make it fun. Enabling them to do hands-on experiments will engage the students.

I want them to actually learn how to research and publish their work online.

An iPad will help them accomplish this by letting them learn the newest technology. Most of these students have no computers or tablets at home, school is the only place they can access these.

The journals, pencils, and twistables will allow them to document all the exciting things we do in this enrichment class. I would like to take the motors and batteries and teach them to build a simple robot. They can use the K'NEX to apply different engineering theories to real life.
