This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a first-year teacher and have the opportunity to introduce STEM science to 900, K-5 students at a Title I-funded school. At the school, supplies are limited. I would like for them to have these supplies so they can create hands-on projects such as catapults, bridges, ping pong ball structures, and marble mazes that they can be proud of.

My students will require basic supplies required by the STEM curriculum.

The tape will be used to secure the popsicle sticks and other building materials and structures they build onto cardboard. The rulers will be used to assist in measuring the building materials to create secure structures The crayons, colored pencils, dry erase boards and markers will be used to render drawings showing their thoughts with their peers as to how to solve particular problems using the STEM concepts they have learned. The projects are hands on, often times requiring scissors to cut materials needed to create structures. Our STEM science curriculum is a teamwork effort so the caddies will be used to gather enough of the diverse types of materials the teams need to complete their projects. Each grade will be learning a different set of vocabulary words for each module. With limited whiteboard space in our classroom, I will be using the easel pads to easily access those vocabulary lists throughout the day.

The diverse students in this title one school deserve a structured, engaging opportunity to be successful in their first ever STEM science classroom.
