My Students

To say that our students have had to overcome a lot over this past year is an understatement. Not only have they had to deal with normal societal and economic pressures, but they've had to do so during a worldwide pandemic. Since returning to school, they are stronger, resilient and more ready to take on the world!

Our school is a Title I urban school with the most diverse population in our district (80% BIPOC).

Over 66% of our students qualify to receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our sweet students come from diverse backgrounds and bring a large array of experiences to our classrooms and school. School becomes a safe haven for these scholars - where expectations are the same every day and basic needs are met. While they come to school to learn, they thrive when they are given the opportunity to utilize a variety of resources to make learning real and fun.

My Project

My sweet students come to school with a desire to learn and explore and a need to learn how to work together in a school community! Because of the lack of socialization over the past year and a half, we are re-imagining how to help our students learn and be able to socialize at the same time.

This project will help fund storage, supplies and new STEM building materials that will give my students the opportunity to collaborate and learn basic socialization skills at the same time.

The benches will provide storage and work space away from their traditional seats. The headphones will be used for watching STEM videos together (with a splitter), listening to books together, or working on games together. And the paper and containers will help to replenish our current STEM area so that students have lots of supplies to chose from when building and creating.
