STEM Morning Tubs

My students need to explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Math through non-traditional means. STEM morning activity bins will give my students hands-on activities to do daily during morning arrival.

My Students

My students live in a high poverty area. Many students live in public housing or shelters. Some are being raised by extended family or are in foster homes awaiting adoption. My students come to school with high hopes of great achievements and I want to do my best to make that come true. It is often difficult because we have many obstacles, but we persist.

My upcoming students are reading 1-2 grade levels behind and math levels are comparable.

Students have different learning styles. I try to accommodate that with the resources we have, although it is terribly difficult. No matter what, our classroom is our safe, happy, learning place.

My Project

I would like to start our day with STEM morning tubs. The requested STEM bundle comes with all the necessary materials for the students to build and create. We will use them during arrival so that students will be motivated to arrive on time and increase attendance.

Students enjoy hands-on learning and we can start our day with activities that will get their brain ready for critical thinking skills.

Some of the activities include construct a working parachute, design a leakproof roof and engineer a floating raft. The kit was specially developed to help children think like real scientists and engineers as they explore the STEM design process and solve problems - students plan, build and test their designs, then improve them until they are successful. The kit comes with everything needed to work through exciting challenges, plus detailed lesson plans that make it easy to focus students’ learning and explain the STEM concepts behind each challenge.

STEM education helps to bridge the ethnic and gender gaps sometimes found in math and science fields. Initiatives have been established to increase the roles of women and minorities in STEM-related fields. STEM education breaks the traditional gender roles.
