Every morning, my students walk through the door after greeting me excited to know what we are doing that day! The inquisitive minds of my fourth graders absorb their surroundings: the schedule on the board, the morning work on their desk, the small nuances that have changed in the classroom since they left it last. My students are observant.
My students are vibrant and full of life: they love to be "hands-on!" The excitement is tangible when they see a new activity on the schedule.
Their enthusiasm is apparent when they see that we will be completing a science experiment that day. Their joy radiates when I show them a new math activity using the computers. Their questions come at me rapid-fire when they notice that they will be completing a research project using technology. They cannot wait for a new lesson in Coding. They live for these moments, when learning advances into the twenty-first century and caters to their curiosities.
My students are the future. They are adaptable and empathetic. They are inquisitive scientists, future researchers, growing mathematicians, and lovable learners. I want my students to have every opportunity available for them!
My Project
My students will be using these materials to complete a STEM challenge where they use their knowledge of the plant life cycle, adaptations, and habitats to design their own plant!
Students will utilize their science background knowledge while integrating principles of design, engineering, and artistic vision into their creation.
This project will also require collaboration, teamwork, and leadership qualities.
Having a wide variety of materials available will allow variability in student projects. I am excited to see what they create with the constraints as they undergo this engineering and design process challenge.
