My Project

In my STEM classroom, I set the kids up to fail, on purpose. I want them to feel comfortable enough in the space to try things that might not work. They are taught that failing is the first step to success. There is nothing quite like the joy on a student's face when they finally master something that has been a challenge. Their joy reflects the hard work, perseverance, and effort they have put in.

The materials I have chosen for my classroom are open-ended to allow the same students to work with the materials time and time again and not have the same outcome.

The magnetic design center will allow students to utilize the magnetic coaster, magnetic paths, and the magnetic gears to create many different projects. We currently have about 10 pieces of Magna-tiles that I found in a second hand store, which the students love to create 3D structures with.

The items on my list will help teach multiple science and math and engineering concepts at the same time, or be able to spread out into different lessons. Magnetism and gravity. Forces and motion. How to build structures that stand on their own and how to keep objects in motion. These items allow for creativity and joy and wonder.
