A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My young students are considered at risk. Many don’t have a lot of speech, or fine or gross motor skills. Some have very few material belongings. None of that matters to my young learners. They see and treat each other as equals and the same. Each of my students are amazing kids, with an endless potential if given the opportunity.
What, my young students have in abundance is a lot of love and a genuine desire to learn.
We are a Title I preschool in an urban, public school system. Over 78% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. To them it doesn't matter what their lives are like at home, when they come to school they know it's a safe place that encourages them to use their imagination, allows them to explore, and helps train them to use their intellect in a fun and creative way.
My Project
This Stand-Up Magnetic Center, Create-A-Chain Reaction STEM Kit and Engineer-A-Coaster Activity Kit will provide my preschool students valuable opportunities to build and design independently and collaboratively with their peers. Engineering is a field of study that is represented mainly by males. I would like to begin planting the engineering seeds of interest with all of my students: male and female. The requested Design and Build Engineering Centers will provide many opportunities for hands-on and minds-on work to occur. These STEM related materials will further encourage my preschool students to think analytically and to take risks in their supportive and safe environment.
