My Students

My passion for teaching is truly enhanced when I am able to make learning a memorable and exciting experience for my third graders. The students in my class are one of the 270 classrooms across the New York City that are in an inclusive program for children living with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). These third-graders are some of the most empathetic, smart, generous, and eager to learn individuals I have ever worked with despite the challenges they face on a daily basis. My students would truly from this opportunity.

In today’s community of learners there has been an emphasis placed on integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

To better prepare my students for their future they would greatly benefit from STEM based materials. Thank you so much for considering donating to this project!

My Project

Providing resources for different levels of learners is incredibly important. As a classroom community, my students are going to be involved in computer sciences’ as a core subject for the first time in their academic lives. During center rotations, students will be able to frequently access and use these materials to enhance their understanding of how to code (first through reading resources). Code & Go Robot Mouse, will enable students to understand there is a clear process to coding through symbolic and pseudocodes. Using these materials will develop a foundational knowledge of how to code. The materials such as the Wonder Workshop and Think Fun Code Master will be utilized when students build a more concrete understanding as to how coding works. With a hands-on approach to learning, I will be able to make learning exciting, engaging, and most importantly enhance how students interact with the world as digitally literate and native citizens.

In 2015, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced (and began) a 10 year-long initiative which stated that computer science education will be implemented throughout the entire New York City Department of Education (Public School) by 2025.

These children deserve the same job opportunities their general education peers will be provided with. Therefore, if we continue to wait and not provide these children with the Computer Science materials they need, they will continue to fall below the academic gap. Let’s not forget, these children face obstacles regularly, but they persevere every time. In order to close the academic gap globally, it is essential that I can prepare students for their professional and academic future. If there is one thing that we know, it is that technology is changing the way we teach, learn, and even interact with the world. In today’s community of learners there has
