This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember what it was to be in First Grade? A typical day in my classroom is busy, busy, busy! My students are active and enjoy exploring. Their young minds need tools and meaningful experiences. We are a Title I school with a very high percentage of low income families. While poverty and language can be barriers for my students, I like to create a learning environment that makes their learning fun.

As their teacher, I want the best for my students in and out of the classroom.

I must create an environment where my students have endless opportunities.

My Project

STEM in first grade is an introduction to the wonderful world around them. My students love to explore and build things.

By exposing students to STEM and giving them opportunities to explore STEM-related concepts, they will develop a passion for it and hopefully pursue a job in a STEM field.

My students want to test out their ideas, plan new ideas, and figure out why their ideas worked or didn't work. The Design & Build Engineering Center will allow students to look closer at real-life designs and make original structures. The Creative LEGO Brick set will stimulate curiosity to explore and create all sorts of life-like figures, objects and buildings. My students will be encouraged to open-ended building with minimal teacher involvement.
