My Project

This will be my 4th year of teaching Geometry in Baton Rouge, La.. I've created this DonorsChoose in order to gain necessary materials to start implementing project based learning in my Geometry classes. Throughout my years of teaching I've observed that students comprehend and retain concepts more when they are connected to real life experiences and are able to investigate these ideas hands on. The use of these materials will help students create 3D models, illustrations, and presentations that will take place throughout the school year.

Using these requested supplies to help implement project-based learning, students will have the chance to explore the world of STEM and aid in guiding students' curiosities into solving questions they may have never thought to ask.

I know a question many math teachers hear when trying to teach a concept is, "When will we ever use this in life?" While students only ask this question to show their dislike of the topic, the question presents an opportunity to help them understand how these ideas are modeled in the real world. My goal in implementing project based learning is to move students away from simple memorization of arithmetic to conceptual understanding of how math is applied to everyday life.

Teaching at my school has provided me with the opportunity to work with so many students whose intellectual understanding is amazing but unfortunately with only limited resources, are never given the opportunity to fully develop the ideas they may have. I want to inspire students to start challenging, creating, and investigating when it comes to math. And hopefully with your help began a spark of interest into the World of STEM they never knew they had.
