Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school in New York City. Our school is located in an area of the South Bronx with a very high concentration of poverty. Most, if not all, of my students are eligible for free lunch.

My students are a group of hard workers and so far many of them have made tremendous progress this year.

When they are engaged in activities that require them to problem-solve and be creative, their learning moves to higher levels of understanding.

My Project

Albert Einstein said,

"Play is the highest form of research."

Robotics, coding, and hands-on learning are surefire ways to increase student engagement, inspire curiosity and ignite my students' natural desire to explore and discover in a hands-on way! The STEM resources that I am requesting, such as the Chromebook, the LEGO Creation Activity kit, a robot they can code, headphones, iPad stands, and Makey Makey invention kits will enable them to learn robotics in hands-on, fun and engaging ways! The robots and invention kits will help my students work and learn independently as well as collaborate in teams to problem-solve as they learn more robotics and coding. My students will start out playing with the robot, but will also learn important programming vocabulary associated with coding and robotics . These newly learned skills, no doubt, can be transferred into other curriculum areas.

My students are "digital natives." Resources for STEM education should not be a luxury, but an essential part of a quality 21st-century educational program.

Your generous funding of this project will equip my students with the knowledge, tools and skills needed to master robotics for success at higher levels. They may be elementary students today, but, with your funding, they will be on the path to becoming the critical thinkers and computer scientists the world will need tomorrow!
