My Students

Students in my 1st and 4th grade STEM class must keep up with the changing times. They are already learning to read and write and now they must learn to question and find solutions.

Finding the funding for the materials we need to keep them engaged can be challenging.

These students come to my class already at a disadvantage because we are a Title I school. However, just because we lack the funds does not mean we lack the drive to succeed. The students who enter my class are yearning for knowledge and information. They have personality and drive unlike any other. What they lack is money. They lack resources to keep them up to date on technology and STEM projects.

My Project

I am currently teaching a 1st and 4th grade STEM class. These students are about to embark on some building projects in which they imagine, plan and design a structure that would be strong enough for a wind storm. We are asking for tinker toys, fiddlestix and lincoln logs to help with this project.

We are currently reading and analyzing the classic story, The Three Little Pigs from the point of view of scientists.

What exactly was wrong with the houses created by the pigs in the story? Why did they fail? Can we make them better and successful at standing up to the big bad wolf? With your help, we hope to try!
