My Students

I teach inquisitive, energetic students in a wonderful and diverse Title 1 school in the Stapleton neighborhood of Staten Island. Almost all of our students receive free lunch (just like I did as a child), but I won't let that define them or their future. I see promise and possibility. Across all grade levels, I see students who want to learn, who want to be successful, who want to feel special, and who want to be recognized for their uniqueness.

My students love to be young scientists in my classroom: the geologists, engineers, and coders of tomorrow.

Their eyes light up with anticipation when they realize they will explore or create something in class. Hands-on is my hook, and I can't wait to watch them solve real world problems with the STEM station kits.

My Project

Through my STEM classes this year, I am emphasizing the 21st century skills of collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. These comprehensive project-based kits encourage collaborative problem solving at a level that's just right for my young students, and I will be able to integrate these STEM kits to enhance my existing curriculum.

I want my students to experience challenges, for it is by persisting through frustration that they will not only accomplish their goals, but feel the pride and satisfaction of success over something difficult.

This isn't just a science or engineering skill - it's a life skill, and I'm grateful that I can help facilitate this kind of valuable learning.

The materials were specially developed to help children think like scientists and engineers as they explore the design process and solve problems: students plan, build, and test their designs, and then improve them until they are successful. The kits come with detailed lesson plans that make it easy to focus students’ learning and explain the STEM concepts behind each challenge. There are even career cards that apply what kids are learning to the real world, as well as a complete set of books and posters that provide helpful background knowledge about many different STEM projects - just the thing to support college and career readiness.
