My Project

Testing can be a stressful time for students, and maintaining focus for long periods can be challenging. This project provides engaging STEM-enriched brain break activities to help my 9th-grade biology students reset, refocus, and reduce test anxiety while still engaging in meaningful learning experiences.

The materials in this project include mini-science experiment kits, board games, puzzles, and art supplies to offer hands-on, creative, and problem-solving activities across all STEM niches.

These activities allow students to take short but stimulating breaks that keep their minds active without feeling overwhelmed. For example, quick science experiments like DIY lava lamps, chromatography, and magnetic slime will let students explore scientific concepts in a fun, low-pressure way. Board games like Cytosis, Periodic, and Gravity Maze encourage strategic thinking and reinforce STEM concepts, while puzzles and building kits like Lego STEM sets and 3D brain teasers promote creativity and engineering skills.

To ensure all students find something engaging, this project also includes coloring and art supplies like biology-themed coloring books, sketch pads, and modeling clay, providing a creative outlet for students who need a more relaxing brain break. Additionally, snacks are included as rewards to celebrate students’ hard work and perseverance during testing.

A storage bin will keep all materials organized and easily accessible, creating a structured and inviting space for students to recharge. By providing these resources, I aim to create an environment where students feel supported, engaged, and ready to tackle challenges with a refreshed mindset.
