This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We need plastic containers adm. Building STEM kits to create STEM bins, filled with hands-on materials and activities focused on science, technology, engineering, and math, is a perfect way to foster independence, creativity, and critical thinking in children on the autism spectrum. Students with autism often thrive in environments that provide structured, tactile, and engaging activities.

STEM bins offer opportunities for these children to develop fine motor skills through hands-on exploration and manipulation of objects.

For example, building with blocks, gears, or simple magnetic kits not only engages them in constructive play but also strengthens their ability to control their hands and fingers in a developmentally appropriate manner.

Moreover, STEM activities encourage problem-solving skills, helping students learn to break tasks down into manageable steps. These bins allow students to work at their own pace, fostering a sense of independence and confidence. As they engage with different projects, they learn to troubleshoot, make decisions, and think creatively—all skills that are essential for their future growth.

In addition to academic benefits, STEM bins provide students with sensory experiences that are often soothing and grounding. By working with various textures, shapes, and materials, students can find activities that align with their unique sensory needs, making learning not only productive but enjoyable.
