Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a Title 1 school. The majority of my students are from low income families where their parents are field workers. My students come ready to explore, make friends, and become life long learners.
I would like to have STEM bins in the classroom to ignite my students creativity and imagination.
Kindergarten has become so academic based and can be overwhelming at times. My students are 5 and 6 years old, and they need time in the day to play and be 5 and 6 year olds. The STEM bins will help introduce math and science concepts, that will be taught later on, but will be done through play. For example, the magnetic tiles may spark a little bit of girls' interest in positive and negative charges or even architecture.
My goal for the STEM bins is to show my students that learning doesn't always just require pencil and paper. They will be leaving with their hands and using their brains. As an added bonus, my students will be using and improving their fine motor skills while using the STEM bins.
