Our classroom is a place of challenge and discovery! We live in one of the most impoverished counties in California which has been further impacted by multiple wildfires over the past four years. However hazy and ash filled our skies might become, our dreams and determination to achieve a brighter future are undimmed.
While our little town is both friendly and remarkably beautiful, many families struggle financially.
At our very small, rural, Title I school, all of our students participate in both the free lunch and free breakfast programs. We also offer a reduced cost after school enrichment program. The wonderful first to fifth grade students who visit my reading intervention classroom work diligently to sharpen their reading and writing skills. They eagerly strive to move forward in their academic careers.
My Project
Science is an invaluable motivational tools for young students who are finding challenge as they learn to read. Students adore STEM and develop self esteem as they learn how to think and behave like the scientists and engineers they admire.
With your donation of WiggleBot and BristleBot STEM kits, students will create a fascinating robotic drawing machine and tiny robot whose moment can be programmed simply by changing the position of its arms.
Students will gain hands-on experience with engineering, small motors, circuitry, and the principles of balance. Both of these open ended projects allow for creativity and innovation rater than demanding rote memorization. Students are gently lead into critical thinking and problem solving while they are experimenting and collaborating with their peers. Let's shake up the curriculum and make students want to jump out of bed and beg to get to school early!
Please join me in providing engaging challenges and fun lessons which make it easier for students to focus their effort, develop their reading skills, and gain mastery of the STEM concepts behind each challenge. The seeds we plant today might just produce the scientists and engineers who will change our world and produce a brighter tomorrow!
