My Students

My twenty second and third graders are eager to learn. They come from a variety of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Many of my students receive free lunch or are eligible for lunch at a reduced cost.

My greatest challenge this year will be finding a way to meet the needs of all of my students, especially since I am teaching two grade levels.

A majority of my students are performing at their respective grade-level, but I also have some students who are performing above grade-level and some who are struggling and are performing below grade-level. I am going to need to challenge my higher performing students while also giving extra support to those who are struggling. I intend to use STEM/STEAM activities to help my students increase their abilities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math through hands-on activities.

My Project

We have adopted new Science standards, but our current materials are outdated and do not adequately match up with the new standards. The NGSS Grade 2 Complete Collection and the NGSS Grade 3 Complete Collection books I have requested will provide my students with reading material that is aligned with the new NGSS standards.

Additionally, I want to expose my students to Technology, Engineering, and Coding to show them the role each of these fields play in the world around us.

The majority of the materials I have requested will allow me to expose my students to Technology, Engineering, and Coding through fun, hands-on activities. The Nature Blocks, Playstix, Pipe Stems, 3-D Collage Box, Pom Poms, Tree Rings, and Craft Sticks will be used to create Stem Bins. These will allow my students to create, provide my students with an introduction to STEM/STEAM, and give my students examples of where we find STEM/STEAM in the world around us. The Dash Dot Pack and the Coding and Computer Programming books will be used to introduce my students to Coding. I hope to inspire my students to possibly pursue careers in Technology, Engineering, or Coding.
