My Students

We are a pre-k through 5th grade elementary school. We serve a very diverse population of students in preschool through fifth grade. Our goal is always to prepare our students for success in high school and college, and the everyday world. Since our school is near the University of Michigan, we get a lot of students from China, Japan, Korea and Poland. Many of our students are English language learners that greatly benefit from library story time.

My students are so excited about books and literature, always ready to listen to and discuss stories.

I do read-alouds with all of my students and look forward to the interesting and exciting discussions we have about books every day.

My Project

Our read alouds always take place on our reading rug. The new rug I would like to obtain is big enough to fit anywhere from 20-30 students, allowing them personal space on their "special spots".

Our current reading rug is worn out.

It is stained, tattered and not big enough for the large class sizes we have. Last year I had fifth grade classes that had 28+ students.

A new reading area rug would be a great gathering spot for our students to enjoy and talk about the books we love during whole group and small group discussions. It is often a gathering place for our students after they have chosen books to take home.
