My Students

My students attend a large, comprehensive urban magnet school in Philadelphia with over 2000 students. Coming from all neighborhoods, the students represent the vibrancy and diversity of Philadelphia; each class I teach is comprised of students from at least ten different racial, ethnic, or national origin groups.

Although my students are talented, they are not privileged and struggle to afford the extra-curricular events, like field trips or new literature, that enhance the educational experience.

The students crave the opportunities to view cultural events and to visualize literature being made real.

My Project

Even though my students are top performers in their public schools, the school district in which I teach has cut the budget to the bare bone essentials. Because of this many of my students, even seniors, have never seen high-quality art or theater.

By ameliorating the costs of transportation, this project will make attendance at a high quality theatrical event a reality for my students.

With their attendance, my students will be able to have an insight and experience into the high quality theater only experienced or available to students from more privileged backgrounds.

Likewise, by attending a high-profile theatrical event the students will be able to witness how performers they may know use the theater to enrich the experience of life.
