My Students

Do you remember attending assemblies when you were in school? Sadly, my students haven't had that opportunity. We rarely have any type of assemblies at our school.

I teach middle school music in a high need, urban community.

My students love to listen to music. Many of my students have never experienced a live music performance. Our school district is currently going through some difficult financial times. Our budget does not allow for music assemblies, and I would love for them to have this opportunity.

My Project

I am requesting a visit from a group of musicians called "Resonance". They are a group of percussionists that will play the steel drums for my students. In addition to their performance, they will also teach my students about the music of the Caribbean. My students will also have the opportunity to go on stage and play the drums. This will be a great musical learning experience for my students.

This live music experience will be a wonderful way to introduce the music of the Caribbean to my students.

The will love listening to the steel drums. With your help, you will give my group of students an experience they will never forget. You will be the reason that they will experience a live music performance.

Resonance (Caribbean Traditions takes students on a musical and cultural journey to the island of Trinidad, the birthplace of the steel drum. This program traces the development of steel drum music from traditional West African drumming, to the rhythms Caribbean islanders played on junkyard materials, to the modern steel band – whose instruments are made from oil barrels! Students are invited on stage to play with the band in this hands-on entry to the evolution of the steel band.) $495.00
