My Students

What makes our students special are the unique, creative qualities about them. Traveling from all parts of San Diego, our students gather together to grow in an environment that moves beyond the boundaries of a classroom. They want to be a part of their community, sharing their unique and diverse experiences, passions, and strengths. They desire to learn in a way that brings about their very best, because they believe that great learning comes when it is student motivated, as they discover more about themselves and the world around them. This is seen not only as they are envisioning their ideas, but when they actually work hard to make their ideas their reality.

Our 8th grade community consists of amazing students who LOVE to INNOVATE, CREATE and EXPRESS themselves in their classroom and beyond!

Our school is all about innovating the classroom space, as well as the subject content, by bringing learning experiences to life, whether that means baking cookies to learn about ratios and proportions or doing hands on projects to learn more about food sustainability. Whatever the project or goal, our students love to discover new things and to express their work in profound ways!

My Project

Our 8th grade community would love to discover more about how science works in a practical, yet exciting way.

We need materials for STEAM labs to help students interact with real lab materials.

Students will be able to see the practical applications of science, technology, engineering, and math in their daily lives, and how they can use scientific inquiry to solve problems. The pipe cleaners, balloons, and craft sticks will help students learn more about physics and the forces of motion. The conductive thread and LED's will show students more about electricity and engineering. Students have expressed interest in even leading out their own science experiments, but have wanted resources to help them with this process. The STEM lab book would help make this more approachable for them.

These materials will help students visually understand how the scientific process works in real, world situations and will aid them in making science come to LIFE and feeling successful!

Students have expressed that they would be highly interested in performing fun, interactive and engaging science experiments. For many of them, science has only gone so far as seeing science in a textbook or looking at a video because of limited resources. Despite all of this they often find random materials to make things, such as slime. They have voiced that it would be very exciting to take science to another level this year and as such they want to learn more about organisms, such as bacteria. Their goal is to educate their school community, however they will need supportive evidence and data for their research. Hence, the microscope glass slides, inoculating loops, agar plates, and stains will help them in their scientific investigation about the different types of bacteria at a microscopic level and how they affect people.
