My students are part of the modern media communications magnet program. We specialize in integrating 21st-century skills within our math and science curriculum. One project we are working on is kid blogging and publishing student work into text.
Please support my class to become 21st-century learners and leaders!
My Project
Part of my vision as a media arts teacher is instilling global communicators through skill based curriculum within the media community. My current students have recently expressed interest in graphic design, computer programming, and entrepreneurship.
I would like to develop my elective blogging class as a hub for teaching 21st century entrepreneurship skills- including; blogging, vlogging marketing, product review, product production, and customer service.
The Cricut machine would be used to help create an interdisciplinary unit on STEM- involving science, technology, engineering and math. Students would design a logo or brand using mathematical standards like proportional relationships and ratios. They would also use math skills like measurement to enlarge, or shrink image designs.
Once their blueprint is created students would then use technology to create their draft into a graphic print. This print would be edits, resized, shaped and perfected using the engineering process of trial and error.
The tools being bought would allow the students to cut and shape their logo as a sticker. This sticker would be their logo for their blogging website and can be used on water bottles, t-shirts, mugs... anything! The vinyl sheets will be used for students to use to create colorful logos (stickers) without feeling constrained to one color products when designing.
Creativity is KEY to this project. Student choice, freedom and craft will help students gain a better understanding to the STEM process, and 6th grade benchmarks in both math and science! Entrepreneurship is also another skill students will learn as they begin to elevate their logo and design.
