My Students

“When will I ever use this?" is something constantly heard in regards to science. My goal for this year is to fully engage and immerse my students in all that encompasses Biology. I plan on doing this through the Engineering Design Process, collaborative groups/competitions, plenty of opportune tech moments, and a secure learning environment.

My students, 75 percent of them receive free or reduced-price lunch, NEVER let their SES determine their capabilities and for that reason, they deserve the exposure to the various tech, which feels like toys but in actuality are opportunities for learning.

Add to that the diverse array of nationalities, religions, and languages are spoken, my Biology classroom is filled with students of varying intellectual, socioeconomic, and cultural environments. In my class the commonality is science. Sitting in groups enhances the positive community and gives students the opportunity to interact with people they might not have otherwise, while at the same time contributing to student's feelings of accountability in the subject.

My Project

I am excited for the new school year! I am teaching Biology to students at the various educational levels at a Title I school. My school has begun a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) initiative that can affect some of my students who don't have their own devices. I utilize technology consistently and the iPad will definitely assist those students that do not have their own device.

After seeing the incredible opportunities via Skype in the classroom, I can't wait to receive the webcam and allow my students to talk to people around the world.

I intend to allow students a creative license in using the Cricut Maker to set a classroom atmosphere the encourages, and doesn't discourage. We will be able to bring different standards to life with die-cut manipulatives for hands-on activities.
