Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Science is my favorite subject because it combines my two passions as a teacher - learning and "playing". When I teach science I like to have the students get hands-on with it. These materials will allow me to have hands-on projects that will reinforce topics that we are learning about.

Our students are super interested in water - where does it come from?

Where does it go? What can you do with it? What do you mean its in the air? Why can't I see it? Our school chooses an overall theme to incorporate into our school year and this year it's...WATER! This is why I would like to be able to bring the STEM kits into the classroom. Since I anticipate that water will turn into a conversation on weather, and weather will lead to lightning I am also requesting STEM kits on electricity to be able to give them some activities to experiment with in that area.

My Project

I would love to use these kits during our project time to set up small groups of students to work on specific water (or electricity) related projects. They will develop their hypotheses, set up their experiments, chart their results and present these to their peers during our recital time. Every Friday, the children have to present something to their peers: a song, a poem, a skit, or if we are able to receive these materials; a science experiment! I selected these specific supplies because the one thing there is a dearth of in our school, is science materials. I like that these kits have everything that is needed to support our lessons.

In order for our classroom to be able to receive these materials, your help is needed! Teaching science from a book is one thing, but creating hands-on, interesting and memorable lessons is another. Please help me continue to spark their scientific creativity! These students have so many questions about how the world works. These STEM kits could help them experiment and learn a little more about things they have questions about. Thank you!
