My Students

I am a New York City public school educator. I am a part of a district which is a cohort of many schools across our city and has the highest amount of special needs students. Our district is specifically designed to educate students with disabilities. My students have Autism and multiple disabilities. They are also economically disadvantaged. Our district works a 12-month program, so it is essential to have appropriate educational materials and curriculum to support them and meet their individualized learning needs.

I teach students with disabilities, and 100% of my students qualify for free and reduced-priced lunch.

Students often come to us with many struggles from home. I want their education to be fun and exciting. In my classroom, we use technology to learn and grow! My students are getting exposed to STEAM in all content areas, and I want to ensure they build 21st century skills by getting craft supplies for remote learning!

My students are some of the most disadvantaged students in New York. I want to ensure that we can meet their needs by learning skills to meet their IEP goals and get them the supports they need for remote learning at home.

My Project

Working at home for many students are difficult. For students with disabilities, it can be an impossible task. Virtual learning is not the preferred option and students don't have a choice. In order to support my students and make the learning fun and engaging, I want to create STEAM supply packets that I deliver to their house. This way when we are working on projects all of my students have the materials they need to be successful. By mixing STEAM and Project Based Learning I have tackled some of the issues with virtual learning. Students will be able to follow video models of completed projects and work to make their own fabulous STEAM creations. From building a bridge out of Popsicle sticks to making puppets from every day materials, my students are going to get the chance to learn and explore using a multi-sensory approach to education. Just because they are home, doesn't mean they should loose these hands on tactile projects. To do this I need your help and I thank you for caring about my students.
