Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This initiative will engage students in an interactive learning experience that combines the tactile appeal of LEGOs with the digital artistry of stop-motion animation. The project will showcase the application of STEAM principles through the hands-on construction of LEGO scenes, characters, and mechanisms, which the students will then animate to create an original short film.

Target Group:

Students aged 10-14, in middle school settings, who have shown an interest in any of the STEAM subjects, and who possess a basic understanding of digital technology.

Implementation:

The project will be implemented in four key phases:

1. Concept Development – An ideation session where students brainstorm and storyboard their stop-motion film based on a STEAM theme (e.g., environmental conservation, space exploration, or innovative technologies).

2. Construction Phase – Participants will utilize LEGO bricks to construct detailed scenes and functional models that visually represent their chosen STEM concept while incorporating elements of art and design.

3. Animation Workshop – Students will learn the basics of stop-motion animation, including framing, lighting, pacing, and capturing frames using digital tools and software.

4. Editing and Presentation – The final phase will involve students using editing software to compile their captured images into a fluid narrative, add sound effects, and voice-overs. Completed projects will be presented to peers, teachers, and parents.

- Developed a richer understanding of STEAM concepts through a practical and artistic medium.

- Enhanced their teamwork and communication skills.

- Gained technical skills in stop-motion animation and digital storytelling.

- Produced a creative and educational stop-motion film.

The Invent-A-Story project will culminate in a mini-film festival where students showcase their work. Additionally, films will be uploaded to a dedicated website to reach a broader audience and inspire other schools and communities to incorporate STEAM LEGO stop-motion into their learning environments.
