My Students

I teach second grade at STEAM magnet school in Central Florida, meaning that there is a large focus on learning through Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Our diverse student body represents a wide range of ethnicities, cultures, and backgrounds.

The early years of education are the most crucial to foster a lifelong love of reading and learning.

Each child in my classroom loves to learn and especially enjoys reading time. Whether I am reading aloud to the class or students are reading independently, the children look forward to selecting books tailored to their personal interests. We have rich discussions about the texts they read as literacy is integrated into every subject. Second graders are such a special group of children because they are truly excited to learn about the world around them. I believe that reading is a great place to start!

My Project

Along with opportunities for hands-on activities, one of the best ways to teach young children STEAM skills is through literature. As a STEAM magnet school, my students are fascinated with understanding how things work and are always asking questions to learn more.

Reading quality trade books about these topics is the perfect way for my students to develop literacy skills while learning more about STEAM content.

I have selected texts on STEAM topics my students have shown interest in this year, along with some that we will learn more about during the school year.
