My Students

My students are from a lower socio-economic area that is 100% free lunch. My class specifically is composed of some English language learners who are making great gains in developing their vocabulary and their reading and writing. They are excited about all our different subjects and love to learn!

I would like to provide a STEAM activity center for my students that they have free access to and can utilize to conduct experiments, do research, and engage in science, art, and literacy.

My Project

I would like to create a space in my classroom for students to explore STEAM activities. Instead of using an allotted amount of time, I would like my students to feel as though doing experiments and exploring are activities that they can do all day long. Having a specific space in my classroom can help them achieve this and feel as though they are able to explore when they want to. Many of these activities align with our current science standards and lessons - students will be able to build on this knowledge through these activities while enhancing their knowledge. For example, we do a physical science unit on engineering. I would love to have kits such as the KNEX Simple Machines to help supplement these lesson plans so students have a tangible example of levers and pulleys.
