My Project

My third and fourth-grade students go through a unit of study on economics and STEAM that we use throughout the year across subject areas. I would like to use a marketplace-type setting to reinforce these concepts through earned rewards. Concepts concerning budgeting, using limited resources, opportunity costs and needs versus wants will be considered. Students will purchase rewards based on credits earned from showing a strong work ethic in class. These credits can be redeemed in our marketplace for needed items or wants such as game time or makerspace materials for creating. We are in need of games that increase exposure to the technology element of STEAM, such as coding with Awbie or Coding Jam. We also need a fairy tale kit to offer chances to build furniture, bridges, and houses with a rich story connected. These concepts spill over into makerspace where they will build their own structures with classroom materials. I also need treats and stickers to fill in the classroom market.

My learners will have opportunities to explore materials that infuse art, science, engineering, math, technology, and lessons that develop financial literacy.

The materials generously donated through this project, including the printer ink and stickers will allow my students to create and design bridges, houses, and other structures. They can use the games to develop spatial and coding skills. The future engineers, architects, scientists, economists, and artists are in my room and ready to begin.
