My Students

My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!

Our school is nestled in the borough of Queens in NYC, which is a very culturally and economically diverse population.

Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!

My Project

The Bee-Bots, Learn to code Lady bug, and Pets coding will allow my pre-K -1 students to produce code and visualize the effect of what they create. They will develop critical thinking skills as they navigate their Bee-Bot, lady bug, pets, etc through a maze and centers based. The centers will allow us to integrate other curricular standards. I can easily create mats with site words, letters, numbers, and addition sentences written inside each square on the grid. Students will work on outcomes like counting and letter sounds as their Bee-Bots, pets, and lady bug navigate the grid.

Bee-Bots, and the other centers will make learning look like play.

Not only will students enjoy the Bee-Bots, they will also learn how to think critically and work on several Common Core Math and literacy standards. Teaching coding during the school day will allow me to reach ALL students. Girls and minorities are not equally represented in the computer science field. By exposing all students to coding early on in a fun and engaging way, I hope to improve that statistic.
