My Students

My students are investigators and problem solvers. They are natural scientists filled with curiosity. As scientists in the classroom, they are ready to figure out how things work and invent new ideas that they can test. As 6th graders, their curiosity and ability to manipulate objects is what levels the playing field among them.

My students' individual strengths become an asset as they work together as teams to solve problems and take on challenges.

They discover new ideas and applications in their physical world, along with discovering new things about themselves. I am so proud of my students as they show their strengths and become enthusiastic about their outcomes, especially when they find success after many trials.

My Project

The tinkering labs offer challenges for my students to complete as a team. They work together to design and build a device that meets the challenge goal. For example, they need to design a ride for a toy or scramble an eggs. They accomplish this using the tinkering lab pieces that come with a motor. It is their job, as a team, to come up with a unique solution. Many students discover that they all have an angle or an insight to add to their design, making everyone an important part of the solution. The best parts are witnessing them go back to it with grit to solve the challenge and ultimately to celebrate with their team when the goal is accomplished!
