My Students

My students are joyful, high energy, and full of life. They all have big dreams - to be lawyers, basketball players, college graduates, astronomers, and more.

I teach a self-contained, special education class in Baltimore at a Title I school where one hundred percent of students receive free lunch.

They are all unique in their personalities and learning styles and demonstrate their knowledge in different ways. In my classroom, they learn critical academic, behavioral, and life skills. I want to give them all the tools they need to be successful and accomplish their goals.

My Project

Baltimore has decided to attempt some face-to-face teaching this coming fall. My students will likely be prioritized for face-to-face instruction as well, due to their disabilities that affect their participation in distancing learning. While the district says that it will provide the supplies needed to keep everyone safe and healthy, I am anticipating that our needs may outweigh what the district is actually going to provide. There are many ways that we can mitigate the spread of COVID within school buildings, but additional resources and expenditures are required.

I am requesting critical safety supplies that will help keep our classroom healthy this Fall.

Air purifiers with a HEPA filter may be able to remove COVID particles from the air, which is critical given the poor ventilation in school buildings. I am also requesting additional hand soap and hand sanitizer so that we can wash up as often as we need without having to worry about running out of supplies.
