This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

How many of you read SE Hinton’s classic novel, The Outsiders, when you were in school? I’d be willing to bet most of you are nodding your heads, saying, “Oh yeah, I remember that one! I loved that book!“ Well, students today feel the same way and my classroom copies reflect that!

Torn book covers, no book covers, ripped pages… these books have definitely been well-read.

My students learn more about life through these fictional 1960s characters than they do from any device. The themes of friendship, family, loyalty, and belonging are as relevant today as they were back then, and we need a little help “staying gold” with some new books!
