My Students

Hello! I am a teacher at a Title I school, that has a unique program for kids with disabilities. A few years ago, I transferred from the self-contained classroom back into the general education classroom (at the same school) and remained in the GenEd world for a few years. This is my first year back in the EC world, and I'm so excited! Though this school year looks different, there are skills we are working on to help my kids succeed.

Most of my students have behavior goals that are in place to teach them the skills a typically developing student would have, or have learned; like self-calming techniques they are learning.

Meeting all of the needs of my students, while continuing on with the curriculum, is hard for all of us. My students are provided with more one-on-one attention that they need to be successful within the General Education classroom! I am hoping this project will help my students continue to learn the skills they need and provide them with ways they can take ownership of their own behaviors and educational successes.

My Project

In a world of uncertainty, one thing you can be sure of, is there is still a need within schools. This project will help my students to meet their goals within the EC world and within their General Education classes. Many of my students (no matter the grade level) are working on counting, reading, and behavior skills they struggle to retain.

The calming tubes have previously been effective in my classroom, but with only two to use it has proven difficult to meet each kid's needs; these calming tubes and other calming items will help my kiddos to successfully gain control of their emotions.

The use of the number locks, will provide my kiddos with fine motor skills practice and help them gain an understanding of number sense that they are struggling with. Hands-on learning is one of the most successful ways to reach kids, and during this pandemic that has been hard. However, these locks will be easy to clean and the word tiles can be sprayed and wiped as they are used. Thank you in advance for supporting me and my students and for helping them learn how to advocate for themselves and regulate their emotions.
