My Students

My second-grade students are excited to learn new things and are eager to put their newly learned skills to good use. They love engaging in technology-based learning but are limited by the lack of school resources. My class is an Integrated Co-Teaching class which means that 40% of my students are classified as special education students. Differentiation through technology and leveled printed materials offer an alternate learning opportunity for my students that learn a little differently or require extra support.

Everyone learns differently and my students need their chance to show what they can do.

They meet every challenge thrown at them with an inquisitive nature I have come to truly admire. I want to expand their horizons and provide classwork that will make them feel successful.

My Project

When most people think of the word assessment, they think of anxiety-riddled exams. Assessment is a fundamental part of any classroom but it doesn't need to be a bad experience for the students. It can be done quickly and also be an enjoyable experience for the students without the pressures of a traditional test.

Student engagement is a key factor in the learning process.

The Kleen Slates will help facilitate student engagement in my classroom while at the same time, offering a formative, on the spot assessment of the skills and strategies I am teaching.

I plan to use the Kleen Slates as a way for the students to show me what they are thinking during both whole group and small group instruction. Students love to use dry erase boards in class and these would be the perfect addition for assessment and engagement purposes. It would also allow me to assess my shyer students who do not participate as often as others. I am confident that these boards would increase the learning opportunities for my students.
