I want to create a warm and friendly classroom library/meeting area for my class of 24 kindergarten students. A nice rug is definitely a necessary tool for my students' meeting area/library. It is in this meeting area, I begin each day gathering my students in a circle to do a variety of activities. Here, they greet one another, listen and respond to one another's news, practice academic and social skills, and look forward to the day's events. During this time there are multiple opportunities for my children to practice the skills of being a caring community. Throughout the day my students and I meet again and again on the carpet because that is where the children will be encouraged to freely talk and express their feelings. Meeting spots with an area rug will help my students to feel more "at home" and comfortable. The rug will make the classroom more welcoming while at the same time encourage my children to enjoy learning and each other. Education has to be made fun, or at the very least comfortable. By donating this rug to my class, you will be helping my children and lots more appreciate their educational experience.
