Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I currently teach in a second grade ESL self-contained classroom. My classroom is full of diverse students, coming in with different backgrounds and experiences. Most of my students come from low-income homes and receive free school lunch. Working in New York City public school is a blessing, as I'm able to learn so much from my students' various cultures. My school is a Title 1 school, comprised of about 1,000 children. Each day, my students come to school with a smile on their face, prepared to tackle whatever they're presented with. Most of my students come to me speaking little to no English at all. Through differentiation, relationship-building, and modeling, it's amazing to see how much these students grow throughout the school year.

My goal is to create an environment where my students feel loved, cared for, and one where they can grow and succeed!

My Project

The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go and how it will be used. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! The whiteboards will allow students to practice skills in small groups and solve problems during whole class instruction. The paper and laminating sheets will help me print manipulatives, task cards, and instructional tools to meet the needs of all the learners in my classroom. The ziplock bags will help students' belongings stay clean and organized. The diverse crayons will help me showcase the beautiful diversity in my classroom, and allow students to feel represented and special. The neon bins will help our class organize our notebooks. The pencil cases will give my students a place to store all their personal pencils and supplies, and gain independence in taking care of their things. My students will use the tote bags to hold all their independent reading and library books throughout the school year. Finally, pencils are always a necessity in every classroom and quickly run out before the school year is over.

These materials will be so beneficial to my students, giving them the opportunity to have teacher-created materials and supplies that will help them succeed!

As their teacher, I want to make every day a fun learning experience for them. These materials may seem like a simple request, but they are hard to come by. I often buy these materials myself, because my students' needs outweigh the personal cost. Please consider helping support my classroom. My wonderful students and I thank you in advance.
